Trojan Boys Tennis beats Portage 5-0

The Chesterton boys tennis team won its first match of the season with a 5-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Portage on Thursday.

In singles, Luke Liapes swept Zander Marcotte 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while Fabio Haiduc beat Mickey Winicky 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Troy Feller completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Justin Colbert.

In doubles, Nick Hanson and Corydon Gaff beat Brian Garrison and Cameron Tabor 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 with James Navarro and Drew Engels beating Ethan Monks and Owen Winicky 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2.

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they head to the Crown Point Invitational.

Singles -- 1. Luke Liapes def. Zander Marcotte 6-0, 6-0; 2. Fabio Haiduc def. Mickey Winicky 6-1, 6-1; 3. Troy Feller def. Justin Colbert 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles -- 1. Nick Hanson/Corydon Gaff def. Brian Garrison/Cameron Tabor 6-0, 6-1; 2. James Navarro/Drew Engels def. Ethan Monks/Owen Winicky 6-0, 6-3.

Record: Chesterton 1-1 (1-1 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 6, Portage 0

The Chesterton JV swept all six doubles matches for a 6-0 win over Portage.

Winners included Drake Redman/John Powell (No. 1), Dan Anderson/Danny Vear (No. 2), John Petro/Connor Potesta (No. 3), Nate Rubino/Joe Wadowski (No. 4), David Archbald/Sawyer Metz (No. 5) and Ian Condes/Aiden Li (No. 6).
