Trojan Boys Tennis beats Merrillville

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory over Merrillville on Tuesday.

The Trojans picked up two singles victories with wins by Dylan Jayasuriya over Ayron Williams 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Zac Nabhan over Steffan Santiago 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

In doubles, Trey Moffett and Chris Fouts beat Ronnie Mayersky and Montrell Shell 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1, while Tom McGue and James Jewison beat Sam Dinka and Micah Burgstahler 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

Singles -- 1. Nygel Jackson (M) def. Johny Mario 6-2, 6-3; 2. Dylan Jayasuriya def. Ayron Williams 6-1, 6-2; 3. Zac Nabhan def. Steffan Santiago 6-0, 6-0.

Dougles -- 1. Trey Moffett/Chris Fouts def. Ronnie Mayersky/Montrell Shell 7-5, 6-0; 2. Tom McGue/James Jewison def. Sam Dinka/Micah Burgstahler 6-2, 6-2.

Record -- Chesterton 7-3 (4-2 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 7, Merrillville 3

In singles, Cameron Cook won 4-0, 4-0 at No. 2 and Conner Archbald won in straight sets at No. 3 as the Chesterton junior varsity beat Merrillville 7-3.

In doubles, Colten Carter and Fred Owens won at No. 1 with Ryan Harmon and Tanner Fowler winning at No. 2. Also winning in doubles were Nate Dickinson and Robert Morgia, Mitch Smreker and Nate Scheerer, and Josh Williams and Ian Johnson.
