Trojan Boys Tennis beats LaPorte 4-1

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 4-2 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory at LaPorte on Thursday.

Singles winners for the Trojans included Luke Liapes 6-1, 6-1 over Quinten Spears at No. 2 and Troy Feller over Tristen Poe 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.

In doubles, Corydon Gaff and Nick Hanson beat Graham Seifer and Alex Axe 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while Drew Engels and James Navarro beat Carson Stalbaum and Liam Wolf 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2.

Chesterton returns to the court on Tuesday when they host Michigan City beginning at 4:15 p.m.

Singles -- 1. Andy Emmons (L) def. Chad Whelan 6-0, 6-1; 2. Luke Liapes def. Quinten Spears 6-1, 6-1; 3. Troy Feller def. Tristen Poe 6-4, 6-0.

Doubles -- 1. Corydon Gaff/Nick Hanson def. Graham Seifker/Alex Axe 6-0, 6-1; 2. Drew Engels/James Navarro def. Carson Stalbaum/Liam Wolf 7-5, 6-1.

Record: Chesterton 7-4 (4-2 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 8, LaPorte 2

The Chesterton junior varsity swept all four singles positions and beat LaPorte 8-2.

In singles, Azeez Lakhani (No. 1), John Powell (No. 2), Danny Vear (No. 3) and Aiden Li (No. 4) won in straight sets.

In doubles, the duos of Nate Rubino and John Petro (No. 2), Jack Ward and Drake Redman (No. 3), Daniel Anderson and Dimitri Nicholson (No. 4) and Rhett Lubeck and Brandon Wong (No. 5) were all victorious.
