Trojan Boys Tennis beats Crown Point 5-0

The Chesterton boys tennis team improved to 2-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 victory over Crown Point on Thursday.

In singles, Matt Jewison beat Layton Noerenberg 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 and Blake Ellenwood beat Zach Jones 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

Nick Hanson completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Armando Bracco at No. 3.

In doubles, Chad Whelan and Luke Liapes beat Ethan Scott and Daniyaal Rasheed 6-1, 6-4, while Creighton Gaff and Corydon Gaff won over Nick Robledo and Chris Newlin 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2.

The Trojans will host the eight-team CHS Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 9, Crown Point 2

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Crown Point 9-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Singles winners included Aiden Li (No. 1), Troy Feller (No. 2) and John Powell (No. 3) all in straight sets.

In doubles, Nate Rubino/James Navarro (No. 1), Joe Wadowski/Azeez Lakhani (No. 2), John Petro/Jack Ward (No. 3), Brandon Wong/Andrew Byrnside (No. 4), Sam Keane/Danny Vear (No. 5) and Nolan Bernth/Sam Slutzkin (No. 7) were all winners.
