Trojan Boys soccer team knocks off defending State Champ

The No. 2 ranked Chesterton boys soccer team knocked off defending IHSAA State Champion Lafayette Harrison 2-1 on Saturday.

“We played our best 25 minutes of the year at the beginning of the game,” Chesterton coach Lucas Sabedra said. “We possessed the ball, had numbers involved in the attack and made great runs around the box and into their defensive third.”

The Trojans got on the board first as Seth Conway found Robbie Capehart who volleyed the ball out of the air into the back of the net.

“That’s the Robbie that we love to see,” Sabedra said. “He can be so dangerous in the box.”

Harrison tied the game at 1-1 at halftime before the Trojans managed the game-winner.

Seth Conway crossed a ball in front of the goal that was flicked by Zack Bowser to Ryan O’Dell for a 2-1 lead.

“It was Ryan O’Dell’s first goal as a freshman and first game winner on varsity,” Sabedra said. “Something tells me there will be plenty of those to come. He is a gifted young man.”

Nick Harmon (1 save) and Peter Girzadas (1 save) combined in goal for the win.

Chesterton returns to the field on Wednesday when they head to Portage for a DAC match. JV kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
