The Chesterton boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 68-42 non-conference victory over Hammond Morton on Wednesday night.

“Defensively, we were able to speed them up and create some points off turnovers,” Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “I thought our effort and energy was really good and we will have to continue to play that way.”

The Trojans jumped out to a 12-4 lead after one quarter of play and expanded the lead to 24-14 at the half.

Things really opened up for the CHS offense coming out of halftime as they outscored the Governors 25-14 in the third quarter and coasted home from there.

Offensively, Jack Eaton hit three 3-pointers and scored 18 points to pace the Trojans. Jake Wadding added 14 points in the win.

Rounding out the scoring for Chesterton were Travis Grayson (11 points), Nick Mullen (7 points), Jake Warren (7 points), Kolton Cardenas (5 points), Drew Vanderwoude (5 points) and Sean Elliott (1 point).

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday night when they host Lowell. The JV game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

“We have a great opportunity on Saturday to go against a solid Lowell team,” Urban said.
