Separate styles. Same result.

After winning their opener on Tuesday, the Chesterton boys basketball team fell twice in the Noblesville Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.

In the semifinals, the Trojans fell 104-87 to Ft. Wayne Southside and then fell again in the third place game 61-51 to Bloomington South.

“It was a tough day,” Chesterton coach Tom Peller said. “We have to get home, watch the film and figure some things out. It doesn’t get any easier for us as we get ready for one of the State’s best teams in Merrillville.”

In the opener, Ft. Wayne Southside blitzed the Trojans to the tune of 104 points and hit on 44-of-79 shots (56 percent) from the field.

“We just have to get better fundamentally on defense,” Peller said. “We’ve got to block out better, help better against drivers and just work on the simple things.”

Rhyss Lewis led the Trojans with 33 points, while Jacob Weber added 17 points. Antwan Beeks and Niles Dilosa both scored 11 points in the loss.

In the third place game, the Trojans trailed just 27-24 at the half, but got outscored 22-13 in the third period and never mounted much of a charge.

Chesterton hit on just 17-of-39 shots (43 percent) from the field and 8-of-22 shots (36 percent) from 3-point range.

“We didn’t want to take a lot of quick shots, but that’s us,” Peller said. “We want to play fast. We’re still searching for our identity and that’s something we have to figure out.”

Lewis again led the offense with 24 points and Jack Mullen tallied 11 points in the loss.

“Offensively, we relied to much on Rhyss and we’ve got to get back to moving the ball and getting everybody involved. We have to work better as a team.”
