The Chesterton boys basketball team built a lead and then hung on for a 57-53 non-conference victory over Class 3A No. 10 Hammond on Tuesday night.

“It was a tough game against a good team,” Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “Our guys stepped up and made plays when they needed to.”

With a 40-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter, Chesterton withstood a Hammond rally that never got closer than four points.
