The Chesterton boys basketball team started the game on a 14-0 run and cruised to an 87-47 non-conference victory over Gary 21st Century on Saturday night.

“I was pleased with how connected we were,” Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “They are very good at randomly trapping you and I think we were good at making the simple play. We executed pretty well. It was a good win.”

The Trojans put six players in double figures led by Travis Grayson with 16 points.

“The wealth gets shared. That’s how we are going to be good,” Urban said. “You have to present yourself and then make plays when you get a chance.”

Also scoring in double figures were Sean Elliott and Tyler Vanderwoude with 14 points each. Luke Lombardini and Justin Sims (13 rebounds) each tallied 11 points, while Chris Mullen added 10 points in the win.

Chesterton hit on 35-of-57 shots (61.4 percent) from the field and held the Cougars to just 16-of-50 (32 percent) shooting.

“We got really easy buckets because we were patient and then made the right decision,” Urban said. “We were really unselfish.”

Rounding out the scoring for the Trojans were Owen Guest (6 points), Charlie Eaton (2 points), Landon Johnston (2 points) and Carson Parrish (1 point).
