The Chesterton softball team wasted little time on Wednesday night.

The Trojans erupted for 15 hits and scored 18 runs in the first three innings as they cruised to an 18-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Merrillville.

Maddie Snemis started the first by being hit by a pitch and scored on Faith Matta’s RBI single. After Cassidy Grimm walked, Micaela Iacovetti cleared the bases with a three-run home run.

Hayley Edmonds doubled and scored on a double by Noelle Michael. Michael scored on Kelly Carr’s single as the Trojans sent 11 batters to the plate.

In the second, Cassidy Grimm singled, Iacovetti walked and LaFreniere singled to start the rally. Grimm scored when Marney Sisson was hit by a pitch. LaFreniere scored on Michael’s single and Snemis plated Sisson and Michael with a single.

In the third, Grimm walked and scored on LaFreniere’s single. Sisson walked and Edmonds was hit by a pitch. Courtesy runners Kristi Stevenson and Shelby Grimm scored on Carr’s two-run single.

Snemis walked ahead of Carr scoring on Matta’s single. Snemis scored on a walk to Iacovetti and Matta finished the scoring on a walk to LaFreniere.

Offensively, Carr, Edmonds, Cassidy Grimm, LaFreniere and Michael all had two hits. Iacovetti drove in four runs with Matta recording three RBI’s. Snemis, LaFreniere and Carr all had two RBI’s.

In the circle, Hayley Edmonds picked up the win with five innings of work in which she allowed just three hits and struck out 11.
