Back To Front Page

The Chesterton baseball team took advantage of a late error and scored two late runs in beating Michigan City in a Duneland Athletic Conference contest Monday.

Tied at 4-4, Zach Westphal line drive was misplayed to start the inning. Zach Zimmerman’s sacrifice bunt moved Westphal up 90 feet. A bunt single by Connor Krantz put runners on the corners.

After Krantz moved to second, a ground ball off the bat of Jeremy Krantz scored both runners for a 6-4 lead after six innings.

Michigan City opened the scoring in the top of the first with a solo run, but the Trojans answered with two in the bottom of the inning.

Connor Krantz opened the frame with a walk and stole second. Tyler Nelson’s single to left scored Krantz. Nelson scored on Jake Roof’s single to left.

Ryan Slivka’s RBI single plated Kolton Cardenas in the second for a 3-1 lead.

The Wolves scored three runs in the third and Chesterton tied the game in the fourth when Jeremy Krantz singled to score Westphal.

Offensively, Connor Krantz had a pair of hits to lead the Trojans, while Jeremy Krantz, Nelson, Roof, Garrett Fairbanks, Cardenas, Westphal and Slivka all added a single.

Ray Keane picked up the win on the mound with 3 2/3 innings of work (2 strikeouts) in relief of starter Slivka (2 strikeouts). Nelson recorded a strikeout in garnering the save.

Chesterton returns to the field tonight when they host LaPorte beginning at 4:30 p.m.
