The McCutcheon Mavericks scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and beat the Chesterton baseball team 3-2 in the opener of the Lafayette Jefferson Classic on Friday night.

McCutcheon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning off of Trojan starter Jordan Peterson who scattered 12 hits and struck out eight in six innings of work.

Chesterton scored solo runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the score before falling.

Offensively, Justin Jenks went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Austin Cooley and Scott Homner each added a double.
