Trojan Baseball falls 3 2 to Lake Central

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton baseball team battled back with two late runs, but it wasn’t enough in dropping a 3-2 Duneland Athletic Conference decision to Lake Central on Tuesday.

The Indians scored solo runs in the first, second and sixth innings before the Trojans began their rally.

Zach Westphal led off the inning with a ground ball and moved all the way to second on an error. Tyler Nelson followed suit and another error plated Westphal. Garrett Fairbanks’ RBI ground out cut the lead to 3-2.

Offensively, Zach McKenna, Haydn Malackowski, Ben Collins and Connor Krantz all had singles for the Trojans.

Tyler Nelson started on the mound and struck out one in one inning of work. In relief, Ben Collins struck out two (1 inning), Ray Keane struck out two (3.2 innings) and Chad Dzierba struck out three (1.1 innings).

Chesterton returns to the field tonight when they travel to Lake Central to face the Indians beginning at 4:30 p.m.
