Back To Front Page

After an 11-inning affair on Tuesday night, Chesterton and Crown Point went back at it on Wednesday with the Trojans escaping with a 4-3 victory.

Chesterton opened the scoring in the top of the first as Owen Hallas drew a leadoff walk and Tommy Benson reached on an error. Anthony Kurekís sacrifice fly plated Hallas with the gameís first run.

Austin Peterson followed with a single to center and Benson scored for a 2-0 lead.

Things remained that way until the third when Hallas singled and stole second base. He scored on an RBI single by Kurek.

In the bottom of the third, Crown Point tied the game thanks in part to five walks, a hit by pitch and an error by the Trojans.

Chesterton scored the game-winner in the fourth as Grant Brunt was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Chris Boren reached on a ground ball and courtesy runner Steve Gilbertsen advanced to second. After a strikeout, Hallas drew a walk to load the bases.

Bensonís sacrifice fly to left scored Gilbertsen.

From there, Trojan reliever Brayden Cortwright dominated the game. The 6-foot-6 lefty struck out seven and allowed just two hits in four innings of work to get the victory.

The Trojans return to the field on Tuesday when they host Portage beginning at 4:30 p.m.
