South Shore tells service for Chicago Marathon

The South Shore commuter line is inviting both runners and observers to take the train to Chicago for all of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon events.

The Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo and also the Marathon Packet Pick-Up are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5.

The South Shore will stop the following trains at McCormick Place for those attending the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo and Packet Pick-Up: westbound 14, 216, 116, 218, 18, 118, 220, and 20; and eastbound 109, 209, 17, 119, 19, 121, and 123.

Note: eastbound Trains 109,119,121, and 123 terminate in Michigan City; Train 209 terminates at Gary Metro Center; and Trains 17 and 19 terminate in South Bend.

If you plan to go to the Expo on Saturday, Oct. 6, all weekend trains except Train 601 serve McCormick Place as a flag stop. If you’d like to exit at a flag stop at McCormick Place, please notify the conductor in advance of your stop. Conversely, when waiting to catch an outbound train at McCormick Place, please stand on the platform in clear view of the train engineer.

In addition to its regular weekend service, the South Shore will operate an extra early morning westbound train on Sunday, Oct. 7, arriving in Chicago at 6:04 a.m.

And it will operate an extra eastbound train, departing Millennium Station at 2:35 p.m., serving Van Buren St. at 2:38 p.m., running non-stop to Hegewisch, making all intermediate stops, and terminating in Michigan City.
