The No. 9 Chesterton wrestling team got off to a hot start and rode it to a 45-23 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over No. 13 Crown Point on Wednesday night.

“The guys did a great job up and down the lineup,” Chesterton coach Chris Joll said. “Our freshmen were outstanding, picking up three falls. The hard work in the room is paying off.”

Lucas Davison got things off to a fast start with a fall victory over Jacob Jenninga at 220 (2:33) and Eli Pokorney followed with a pin of Michael Foster at 285 (2:55).

Brandon Bolin pushed the team score to 18-0 with a fall win over Jacob Carter at 106 (2:30).

Danny Tolin picked up a major decision at 113 over Julio Reyes (13-3) and Ethan Kaiser stuck Billy Majrszak at 120 pounds (3:17).

Nick Winland got a win at 132 by decision over Collin Taylor (11-8) sandwiched between two Crown Point victories. Ryne Beckman beat Caden Rice by fall at 152 pounds (3:48) as well.

“Nick and Ryan had come-from-behind wins that put a halt to any momentum (Crown Point) was gaining,” Joll said.

After two more Bulldog victories, Diego Lemley picked up the last Trojan points of the night with a 7-2 decision over Mario Traficanti at 182 pounds.

Chesterton returns to the mat next Wednesday when they host Merrillville beginning at 6:30 p.m.
