No. 9 Chesterton boys win vollebyall regional

The No. 9 Chesterton boys volleyball went to the south side of Indianapolis on Saturday and came home with a Regional Championship.

Chesterton (15-7) swept No. 8 Center Grove 25-17, 25-20, 32-30 to win the South Regional and advance to the State Tournament at Indianapolis Cathedral next Saturday. Chesterton will face off against No. 1 Hebron at 10 a.m. in the quarterfinals.

Chesterton jumped out to an early 21-9 lead in the opening game and cruised to a 25-17 victory before winning game two 25-20.

Trailing 18-11 in game three, Chesterton got a serving run from Kevin Fekete to close the gap to 19-16. After tieing the game at 24-all, Chesterton battled and put the game away 32-30.

Chesterton was led by Kevin Fekete (6 kills, 5 blocks, 14 digs), Nick Raffin (2 kills, 3 blocks, 9 digs, 2 aces), Joe Bishop (5 kills, 2 blocks), Emilier DeJesus (6 kills, 2 blocks, 12 digs), Andrew Balon (3 kills, 2 blocks, 12 digs) and Dominic Raffin (1 kill, 1 block).

The offense was controlled by Kai Cromwell (15 assists, 3 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace) and Adam Whitlow (8 assists, 3 digs) with Evan Ruffner and Jack Roach also contributing.

Chesterton recorded a season-high 14 blocks and 55 digs in the victory.
