Once the first goal
went in, the onslaught was on.
The No. 3 ranked
Chesterton boys soccer team advanced to the championship game of the IHSAA
Valparaiso Sectional with a 4-0 win over No. 7 Crown Point on Wednesday.
“It was a grind at
first,” Chesterton head coach Lucas Sabedra said. “We managed to get over
the hump after our first goal. That made Crown Point push forward which
opened up the field for us.”
The Trojans took
advantage of the space with two first half goals and two more in the second
half en route to the victory.
Goal scorers for
CHS were Robbie Capehart, Seth Conway, Zack Bowser and Soren Vagenius.
“Seth Conway broke
the school scoring record with his 28th goal of the season,” Sabedra said.
“Zack added his 25th and Soren has scored in the last two games too.”
Assists came from
Capehart, Bowser and Nick Biel.
has been showing up this post-season as well,” Sabedra said. “He had another
goal and an assist.”
Charlie Eaton made
four saves in goal to record the shutout.
“Charlie had to
make a couple of nice saves for us tonight,” Sabedra said. “Jordan Carlson
was the man of the match tonight for us though. He did an amazing job
shutting down their main target.”
The Trojans will
face off against Merrillville, a 1-0 victory over Valparaiso, in Saturday’s
championship game. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
