basketball coach Marc Urban is leaving his mark on the program and the State
is taking notice.
Urban was named the
2020 Bob King District 1 Coach of the Year by the Indiana Basketball Coaches
Association on Tuesday.
“You don’t win
these type of awards by yourself,” Urban said. “My wife and daughters
support me, a group of players that have bought in and work hard, great
assistant coaches and an administration that is extremely supportive. Those
are the reasons you get awards like this.”
Chesterton to a 23-3 record and the school’s first Duneland Athletic
Conference (7-0) since 2008. In four season at CHS, Urban’s teams have
compiled a 79-23 record, including the 2019 Sectional title.
“There are so many
people that have a part in this and that is what is humbling about it,”
Urban said. “It’s always about Chesterton first and always will be.”
Urban is a 2001
graduate of Lake Central High School before going on to attend Indiana State
University. He also earned the District 1 Girls Coach of the Year in 2015.
