The Chesterton baseball team scored five sixth inning runs and pulled away for a 7-3 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Michigan City on Wednesday.

The Trojans took the lead in the third inning as Kolton Cardenas started the rally with a one-out walk. After stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error, Cardenas scored on an RBI single by Connor Krantz.

Krantz moved all the way to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tommy Bensonís sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

Michigan City scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game, before the Trojans put it away.

Austin Peterson singled to start the frame. Pinch-runner Patrick Sosby moved to second on a walk to Grant Brunt.

A two-out single by Chris Torres scored Sosby and McKenna. Logan Lawsonís walk pushed Torres to second and both scored on Tyler Nelsonís single to left. Nelson scored the gameís final run on an error.

Offensively, Krantz and Torres each had a pair of hits to lead the Trojans. Torres and Nelson each tallied two RBIís in the win.

Brunt worked the first five innings on the mound to get the win and struck out 11. Steve Gilbertsen threw the final two frames and struck out three.

Chesterton returns to the field next Tuesday when they travel to LaPorte for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
