The Chesterton baseball team made it two Duneland Athletic Conference wins in as many days with a 6-2 victory at Portage on Wednesday.

The Trojans scored first as Kolton Cardenas led off the second inning with a single. After Chris Torres was hit by a pitch, Logan Lawson walked to load the bases. Tyler Nelsonís sacrifice fly scored Cardenas for the 1-0 lead.

Portage scored two runs in the third inning, but Chesterton tied the game with a solo run in the fourth.

Torres and Lawson started the frame with back-to-back singles. Nelsonís sacrifice bunt moved them up 90 feet and Torres scored on Patrick Sosbyís RBI ground out.

The Trojans took the lead in the sixth as Torres doubled and moved to third on a fly out from Lawson. Sosbyís second RBI ground out of the day plated Torres.

The insurance runs came in the seventh as Grant Brunt singled. Pinch runner Connor Krantz moved to third on Cardenasí double and Torres walked to load the bases. Lawson also walked scoring Krantz.

Tommy Bensonís two-out single scored Torres and Lawson to set the final score.

Offensively, Benson led the way with three hits, while Cardenas and Torres added two hits each. Sosby and Benson both tallied a pair of RBIís.

On the mound, Brunt got the win with five innings of work. He allowed just two hits and struck out seven. Steve Gilbertsen worked the final two innings and struck out four.

Chesterton returns to the field tonight when they host Crown Point beginning at 4:30 p.m.
