Late rally lifts Chesterton over Lake Central

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton bats pounded out 12 hits and Matt Kubacki allowed just three hits as the Trojans picked up a 9-3 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Lake Central on Wednesday.

The visiting Indians got on the scoreboard first with a leadoff double and a passed ball for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Trojans took little time in answering back as they took advantage of a hit by pitch and a Lake Central error to put two runs on the board.

Lake Central tied the game in the second with a solo run on another passed ball and the game remained that way until the fifth.

Cole Teal singled to center field with two outs to plate Corey Rusboldt and give the Trojans a lead they would never relinquish. After Brandon Roeske singled, Cameron O’Brien hit a three-run home run to left field to push the lead to 6-2.

Kubacki put the Indians down 1-2-3 in the sixth and the Trojans pushed three more runs across the plate.

Andrew Ralph had a single with two outs and Rusboldt doubled to left to score Ralph. Tyler Sufana tripled scoring Rusboldt and scored on Teals double to left field.

Lake Central tried to rally in the seventh, but Rusboldt came on in relief of Kubacki to slam the door shut.

Offensively, Rusboldt, Sufana, Teal and Roeske all had two hits to lead the Trojans. Kubacki struck out seven in picking up the win, while Rusboldt struck out one.
