Chesterton senior Jake Wadding has been named the Duneland Athletic Conference boys basketball Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.

“It shows a lot of respect that the other coaches have in Jake,” Chesterton coach Marc Urban said. “They understood how important he was to our team.”

Wadding averaged 16.5 points per game, 10 rebounds and four assists in DAC play.

“It’s something we talked about after his freshman year as a goal and it’s great that he was able to achieve it,” Urban said.

Joining Wadding on the first team was teammate Travis Grayson. Grayson averaged 15 points per game and 3.8 assists in DAC competition.

“He definitely deserved it,” Urban said. “As a sophomore, it’s really difficult to make that team.”

Other all-conference players included Nick Anderson (Lake Central), Carson Crass (LaPorte), Dez’Mand Hawkins (Michigan City), Jamie Hodges (Michigan City), Cooper Jones (Valparaiso), Kamari Slaughter (Portage), Ty Smith (Crown Point) and Keon Thompson (Merrillville).

On the girls side, Chesterton’s Ashley Craycraft was named to the All-Conference team.

The rest of the team included MVP Jessica Carothers (Crown Point), Dash Shaw (Crown Point), Lilly Stoddard (Crown Point), Taylor Jaksich (Lake Central), Trinity Thompson (Michigan City), Ryin Ott (LaPorte), Torri Miller (Merrillville), Kristen Cravens (Portage) and Troilisia Lacey (Portage).
