Grassel and Kotso win 29th Dunes Classic

The weather cooperated just enough last weekend for the 54 golfers that took part in the 29th Annual Dunes Classic at the Brassie Golf Club in Chesterton.

The two-day event saw 12 golfers break 76 on Saturday as Rick Grassel won the Menís Championship Flight and Allyse Kotso won the Womenís title.

Grassel fired a 143 over two days to edge Taylor Noel (144) and Larry Achten (146). Kotso bested Saturdayís round by 10 shots on Sunday to post a 168 for the title.

Donna Howell finished second over Elyse Stasil after a three-hole playoff.

In the Menís ĎAí Flight, Brandon Martinís 153 bested Kent Mishler (154) and Jim McCall (155). Bob Allen took the ĎBí Flight with a 174 as Mike Trout (177) and Travis Hamilton (186) followed.

In the Senior Flight, Chuck Welter took top honors with a 156 that included a 75 on Sunday. Welter bested Frank Crider (164) and Ken Dowdy (176).

The Dunes Classic is sponsored by the Duneland Education Foundation and A&M Farm Center. The proceeds go to benefit the Duneland Education Foundation and its mission to enhance educational opportunities for Duneland Students.
