If you’re a Chesterton Trojan, nothing beats a victory over Valparaiso. Even if you have to wait a while.

Thanks to Mother Nature, the Trojans’ had to reschedule and wait, but came through in the end by putting the final touches on a 4-1 victory over the Vikings on Friday afternoon.

“Two 3-set wins made the difference tonight,” Chesterton coach Gretchen Shinn said.

The Trojans got their first win as Elizabeth Shinn beat Valpo’s Christina Rodich at No. 1 singles by injury default. The second points came with a solid 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles for Amanda Gore and Christine Lambert over Krista Schaefer and Allison Hess.

The other two victories came in three sets as Cristi Williams and Bharathi Muthusamy beat Bri Sever and Allison Hauser at No. 1 doubles 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. In singles, Erin DeVaney dropped the first set 6-4, but battled back to beat Mia Kalisch 7-5, 6-2 in the final two sets.

“Cristi and Bharathi played good aggressive doubles to beat Valpo’s number one team,” Shinn said. “Erin came back and got a nice run after dropping the first set.
