A pair of Chesterton High School grads left their mark in Indianapolis at the Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.

Blake Pieroni, an Olympic gold medalist, competed in three events last week, highlighted by a second place finish in the 200 Free (1:46.3).

A junior at IU, Pieroni also finished sixth in the 100 Free (48.49) and 26th in the 100 Fly (54.01).

Vanessa Krause, an incoming sophomore at Michigan, finished fifth in the 200 Fly (2:09.54) and 14th in the 100 Fly (59.67).

Winners of each event qualify for the world team that will compete in the World Championships July 23-28 in Budapest, Hungary. The runner-ups are likely to be chosen, but must wait for the selection process to be completed before officially finding out their fate.

The meet is also part of the selection criteria for the 2017 World University Games Aug. 20-26 in Chinese Taipai, Taiwan.
