Chesterton senior Elyse Stasil finished her stellar high school golf career with a seventh place finish in the IHSAA State Finals at Prairie View Golf Club over the weekend.

“She really battled,” Chesterton coach Jordan Nelson said. “She had a great season, great four years. She’s leaving the program in better shape than she found it.”

Stasil opened the tournament on Friday with a two-under-par 70 that included two birdies and 16 pars and left her tied with Zionsville’s Abby Thielbar for the top spot.

On Saturday, Stasil couldn’t get going as she shot an 84 and failed to make a birdie.

“I made some good swings and I just really couldn’t get any breaks,” Stasil said. “That’s golf. I’d be in a divot in the fairway or the ball would just bounce over the back of the green. It’s been a great year. I had a lot of fun with the girls on the team and played well all year.”

Plainfield’s Kayla Benge edged Lake Central’s Alexis Miestowski by one shot (145-146) for the state title.
