Eric Carlson, Alejandro Kincaid, Olivia Kroeger and Lucas Piunti of Duneland Swim Club have been named to Team Indiana at the 2017 Mid-States All-Star Championships during the weekend of January 7-8, 2017. The two-day meet held at the Natatorium of Indiana University -Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) brings together the top swimmers from Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio and the Missouri Valley who will compete in the name of their respective teams. All four are students at Chesterton Middle School. Kincaid (7th grade) will be competing in the 11-12 Boys category and Carlson and Piunti (8th grade) in the 13-14 Boys. Kroeger (8th grade) would have raced in the 13-14 Girls category, but is forced to miss the tournament due to an injury.

This is Carlson’s first time at Mid-States and he will be swimming the 1650 yard Freestyle. Kincaid will be making his second appearance at the event and will swim the 50 yard Backstroke, the 50 and 100 yard Butterfly and the 200, the 500 and the 1650 yard Freestyle. For Piunti, this marks his sixth time attending the competition. He will be swimming the 100 and 200 yard Breaststroke, the 100 and 500 yard Freestyle and the 200 and 400 yard Individual Medleys. The boys may also be selected to race on Team Indiana relays, a decision that coaches will make at the meet.

In addition to giving the trio the opportunity to be teammates with the top swimmers from other Indiana clubs and helping Team Indiana continue its reign as tourney champions, the meet also provides Carlson, Kincaid and Piunti and Duneland Head Coach Jim Voss with a mid-season assessment of their development, and a chance at setting personal and Duneland Swim Club records.
