The Chesterton girls soccer team took control early at LaPorte and never relinquished it garnering a 2-0 Duneland Athletic Conference title clinching victory.

“We were able to get scoring opportunities by getting the ball in the final third,” Chesterton coach Jason Conway said. “We just didn’t get the ball in the back of the net as often as I thought we could have.”

Addy Joiner scored the game’s first goal just 1:22 into play.

“I was glad we got that goal early, that kind of helped calm us down a little bit,” Conway said.

The Trojans pushed the lead to 2-0 when she took a pass from Carley Perkins and scored past LaPorte goalkeeper Riley Penziol midway through the first half.

“It’s a lot more special to win (the DAC title) outright,” Conway said. “The DAC is a strong conference. There are a lot of good teams. To be able to win the DAC is special. The girls always have winning the DAC as one of their goals at the beginning of the season.”
