The Chesterton volleyball team opened the 2012 season in impressive fashion
with a 25-6, 25-6, 25-17 victory over Hammond Morton on Tuesday night.
Offensively, the Trojans were led by seniors Shelby Ruffner and Katie Urycki
with eight kills each. Classmate Emily Nix tallied six kills in the win and
Jennifer Williams dished out a team-best 12 assists.
On the service line, Urycki led the squad with seven aces with Sara
Tarnowski adding three and Ari Mahaffey getting two.
Defensively, Emily Marcus had eight digs to lead the team and Tarnowski
tallied seven digs. Jordyn Moleski and Mahaffey had six digs each, while
Urycki added five digs.
At the net, Ruffner had three block kills and Williams had two block kills.

The Chesterton junior varsity had little trouble in winning its
season-opener over Hammond Morton
Offensively, Whitney Schreiber and Lia Lombardini had three kills each,
while Shelby Snyder added two kills. Snyder also dished out a team-high
three assists.
Defensively, Lombardini had three digs with Snyder and Allie Sink adding two
digs each.
Snyder also led the team in service aces with 11. Sink tallied three aces
with Lombardini recording two in the victory.

The Chesterton freshman team started its season with a 25-9, 25-23 victory
over Hammond Morton.
Offensively, Taylor Eaton had a team best five kills with Elena Azcona had
four kills.
Eaton also recorded a team-best two service aces and Caitlyn Toth dished out
a team-high nine assists.
