CHS Volleyball sweeps Mishawaka in 3 games

The Chesterton volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 victory over Mishawaka on Thursday.

Offensively, Katie Urycki led the Trojans with 10 kills, while Shelby Ruffner added six kills. Emily Nix and Ali Ostrom each tallied five kills with Jennifer Williams recording four.

Ari Mahaffey dished out a team-best 11 assists and had three service aces as Williams recorded 10 assists.

Defensively, Urycki had 14 digs and Williams added 10. Sara Tarnowski had nine digs with Emily Marcus and Mahaffey recording five digs each.

At the net, Ruffner and Mahaffey had three block kills and Urycki tallied two block kills.

Chesterton returns to the court on Monday when they travel to Andrean for a 5:30 p.m. junior varsity start.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 25-25,

Mishawaka 23-20

The Chesterton junior varsity improved to 2-0 with a hard-fought 25-23, 25-20 victory over Mishawaka on Thursday.

Kaitlin Kuypers led the offense with six kills, while Lia Lombardini and Aubrey Nagdeman each had four kills. Shelby Snyder recorded three kills and dished out a team-best 11 assists.

Defensively, Allie Sink had 10 digs with Snyder and Ashley Hecimovich recording six digs each. Lombardini tallied five digs in the win.


Mishawaka 25-25,

Chesterton 11-18

The Chesterton freshman volleyball team dropped its first decision of the year in a 25-11, 25-18 loss to Mishawaka.

Kaylee Goin, Elena Azcona, Taylor Eaton and Olivia Sech each recorded one kill for the Trojans.
