CHS Volleyball outlasts Michigan City in 5 games

The Chesterton volleyball team sent out seniors Sydney Baltus and Vivi Smilgius on the right note with a come-from-behind 23-25, 13-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-6 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Michigan City on Tuesday night.

Offensively, Meghan Gaffigan led the Trojans with 15 kills, while Katie Nelson added 11 kills. Baltus recorded nine kills and Maggie Vrahoretis tallied eight kills in the victory.

Vivi Smilgius dished out a team-best 31 assists and Vrahoretis added 11 helpers.

Defensively, AJ Devereaux had a team-high 20 digs, while Vrahoretis (19), Baltus (16), Nelson (14), Ella Rodriguez (12) and Smilgius (10) all tallied double figures.

On the service line, Smilgius had four aces with Baltus and Vrahoretis adding three aces each.

At the net, Ella Rodriguez had five blocks, while Vrahoretis added three blocks.

Chesterton returns to the court on Thursday when they travel to Merrillville to take on the Pirates. The JV game is set for a 5 p.m. start.
