CHS Volleyball outlasts Highland in 5 games

The Chesterton volleyball team improved to 7-3 on the year by outlasting Highland 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-9 on Wednesday night.

Offensively, Emma Ekblaw led the Trojans with 12 kills, while Meghan Gaffigan (11 kills) and Sydney Baltus (10 kills) each reached double digits. Maggie Vrahoretis had nine kills and Ella Rodriguez had five kills.

Vivi Smilgius dished out a team-high 23 assists with Vrahoretis handing out 18 helpers.

Defensively, Baltus had 19 digs, while AJ Devereaux and Vrahoretis each added 17 digs. Also in double figures were Greta Tilden (13) and Smilgius (13).

On the service line, Baltus had four aces and Vrahoretis had two aces.

At the net, Reese Czarniecki tallied five blocks and Vrahoretis had four blocks. Ekblaw recorded three blocks in the victory.

The Trojans return to the court tonight when they travel to Michigan City to take on the Wolves. The JV game is set for a 5 p.m. start.
