CHS Volleyball goes 2 1 at Elkhart Memorial

The Chesterton volleyball team finished the day 2-1 at the Elkhart Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

The Trojans dropped their opener to the host Chargers 20-25, 25-21, 5-15 before responding with victories over Ft. Wayne Bishop Dwenger (25-19, 26-24) and Ft. Wayne Carroll 27-25, 12-25, 15-10.

Offensively, Chesterton was led by Shelby Ruffner with 23 kills, while Katie Urycki added 22 kills. Jessica Urycki tallied 10 kills with Jennifer Williams getting eight kills and Emily Nix had six kills.

Williams dished out a team-best 28 assists and Ariane Mahaffey had 27.

Defensively, Sara Tarnowski had 33 digs with Katie Urycki adding 22 digs. Williams and Emily Marcus each tallied 14 digs and Mahaffey had 13 digs.

On the service line, Jordyn Moleski and Tarnowski had four service aces. Katie Urycki added three aces with Williams and Ruffner getting two aces.

At the net, Ruffner had a team-best seven block kills with Williams adding six block kills.

Junior Varsity

The Chesterton junior varsity volleyball team fell 25-14, 23-25, 15-12 to Crown Point in the championship match of the Lowell Invitational on Saturday.

To get there, the Trojans beat Portage (25-17, 25-22), Griffith (25-16, 25-9) and Hammond Gavit (25-10, 25-6).

The Trojans were led offensively by Aubrey Nagdeman with 20 kills, while Samantha Stueber added 18 kills. Lia Lombardini tallied 14 kills and Whitney Schreiber had 13 kills.

Shelby Snyder dished out a team-best 35 assists with Nagdeman tallying 23 assists.

On the service line, Nagdeman had 12 service aces with Lombardini adding nine aces. Snyder had seven aces and Ashley Hecimovich tallied five aces.

Defensively, Emily Parkerson had 35 digs with Allie Sink adding 20 digs. Snyder tallied 16 digs during the tournament.
