CHS Volleyball falls in Sectional semifinals

The Chesterton volleyball team saw its season come to an end Saturday in the semifinals of the IHSAA Merrillville Sectional.

The Trojans battled, but dropped a 25-13, 25-17, 11-25, 25-21 decision to Michigan City.

“Even though we ended the season with a loss, we fought until the very last point,” Chesterton coach Luke Starkey said.

Offensively, Sammi Ostrom led the Trojans with 11 kills, while Haley Notzen added 10 kills. Kristin Stillman tallied five kills with Brittany Milzarek and Ariel Rohe getting three kills each.

Jenna Tarnowski dished out a team-best 32 assists.

On the service line, Taylor Bowser, Ostrom, Tarnowski and Ella Whitmore all had two aces.

Defensively, Notzen had 12 digs with Stillman adding 10. Tarnowski and Whitmore each had eight digs and Bowser recorded six digs.

At the net, Ostrom and Rohe had five blocks each.

The Trojans finished the season 13-21 overall.

Michigan City -- Kylie Filipiak 10 kills, 7 digs; Allison Ruhe 18 digs, Emily Kinney 3 kills, 13 assists, 7 digs; Karmen Halfacre 9 kills, 4 aces, 6 digs; Reece Shirley 16 assists, 5 digs; Hannah Noveroske 9 kills, 4 blocks.

Records: Chesterton 13-21, Michigan City 26-8.
