CHS Tennis wins Portage Doubles Invite

The Chesterton girls tennis team won three of four flights and came away with the team title at the Portage Doubles Tournament on Saturday.

The Trojans amassed 26 points for the title, followed by Portage (23), Lake Central (19), Angola (17), Wheeler (9) and Whiting (2).

At No. 1, Olivia Vesling and Hailee Ellenwood cruised to victories over Lake Central and Wheeler before defeating Portage for the flight title.

At No. 2, Peyton Martinson and Libby Gibson finished 1-2 overall for fifth place.

At No. 3, Leah Rochford and Milena Veltri picked up wins over Wheeler, Lake Central and Portage to garner first place ribbons.

At No. 4, Rachel Byrnside and Christian Charlson got victories against Lake Central and Wheeler before beating Angola in the championship round.

The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when they host Merrillville at 4:30 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Penn JV Invitational

The Chesterton junior varsity finished third as a team in the Penn JV Invitational on Saturday.

Lauren Sensibaugh and Sydney Balas were the only individual flight champions for the Trojans with a 3-0 record at No. 2 doubles.

The other doubles combination of Greta Schmahl and Lily Putchaven were fifth at No. 1.

In singles, Emily Haiduc was fifth (No. 1), Marian Schmahl was fourth (No. 2) and Rina Hector was second (No. 3).
