The Chesterton boys tennis team won its second straight IHSAA Sectional title with a 4-1 victory over Valparaiso at Portage High School on Thursday.

“I couldn't be happier for these boys and our program in general,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “Valpo deserves a lot of credit for pushing us to our limits, but in the end, our experience and on-court energy was too much.”

In singles, the Trojans pushed through with straight set victories by Dylan Jayasuriya (No. 2) and Matt Jewison (No. 3). Jayasuriya beat Max Behrend 6-3, 6-2 and Jewison had little trouble with Ethan White 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Zac Nabhan and Chris Fouts outfought Matt Cory and Raymond Kreloff 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 1. Alec Emmons and Chris Fouts beat Dimitrije Simic and Kyle Gill 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 to set the final tally.

“This win is a credit to our experience and leadership from captains Chris Fouts and Johny Mario, who kept this team focused from the moment we stepped off the bus and they fueled our energy tonight,” Bour said.

The Trojans will face off against South Bend St. Joseph’s on Tuesday in the IHSAA Regional at Portage.
