Three Chesterton High School swimmers were named All-Amer-icans for their
individual events, along with all three boys relays receiving the top honor.
Chesterton senior Nick Oates was awarded All-American status in both the 200
and 500 Free. His time of 1:43.11 in the 200 was 86th overall in the country
and his mark of 4:38.61 in the 500 was 61st.
Junior George Grcevich’s time of 59.12 was 69th in the 100 Breast.
All three CHS relays made the All-American cut. The 200 Medley Relay team of
senior Rafael Aguero, Grcevich, recently graduated Joe Hroma, and senior
Gavin McCarthy finished 94th with a time of 1:39.33, while the 200 Free
Relay team of sophomore Robert Fozkos, Grcevich, junior Kyle Pawlak, and
Oates placed 68th (1:28.18).
Rounding out the relay finishes were the 400 Free Relay foursome of Hroma,
recently graduated Charlie Lorenz, McCarthy and Oates. They placed 91st with
a time of 3:15.32.
“It is very rare to get all three boy relays in,” said Chesterton swim coach
Kevin Kinel.
“It was a shame that the girls relay didn’t make it because they really just
missed it. I am excited though because most of the kids we’ll be coming
back.”
The lone girl representative was recently graduated Cara Davison. She
finished 81st with a time of 24.08 in the 50 Free.
