It was a banner day for the Chesterton Trojans on Saturday.

The Trojans’ athletic teams picked up three IHSAA Regional titles, earning berths to Semistate and getting one step closer to the State Finals.

The day started with the girls cross country team, led by individual Regional champion Shelby Bullock, taking top honors by edging Valparaiso 36-43 at New Prairie.

The boys cross country team followed suit with a 58-74 win over the Vikings. Nathan O’Connor was the top Trojan runner in fourth place.

Both teams will run in the IHSAA Semistate at New Prairie on Saturday morning.

In soccer, the No. 1 ranked Trojans battled from behind in the semifinals to beat Penn 3-2 in double overtime at Goshen. A 4-3 come-from-behind victory against Northridge in the Finals pushed Chesterton into Semistate.

The Trojans will face No. 3 Ft. Wayne Carroll on Saturday at 4 p.m. (Chesterton time) in Kokomo for a berth in the State Championship game.
