CHS Softball works extra for win

Back To Front Page

The Chesterton softball team put together two big offensive innings and it was just enough to get a 7-3 victory in nine innings at LaPorte on Tuesday.

The Trojans broke on top in the fourth when Maddie Snemis doubled and Cassidy Grimm followed with a two-run home run. Kari LaFreniere doubled and scored on Hailey Johansenís two-out single for a 3-0 lead.

LaPorte chased Chesterton starter Lauren Anderson (6 Kís) in the fourth with two runs to cut into the lead.

Another Slicer run in the fifth proved to force extra innings.

The Trojans exploded in the ninth for four runs as Lexi Benko, Hayley McBride and Johansen all singled to start the inning. Andersonís triple cleared the bases.

Maddy Hamady singled to plate Anderson and set the final score.

Benko picked up the win with 5.2 innings of relief work and struck out four.

Chesterton returns to the field on Thursday when they travel to Lowell for a 4:45 p.m. first pitch.
