The Chesterton softball team dropped its first Duneland Athletic Conference decision in a 9-0 defeat at Crown Point on Friday.

“We could probably make up a million valid excuses, but the bottom line is they hit the ball hard and we didn’t,” Chesterton coach LouAnn Hopson said.”

Megan Tymorek picked up two hits and Megan Matheny got one hit for the Trojan offense. Tymorek worked four innings and struck out three before being replaced by Sydney Cooley (2 innings, 0 strikeouts).

“It was a long week for sure,” Hopson said. “This week is going to be just as long. Tonight (at home against Portage) will be a test for our girls to see if they can rebound. They are tough and determined.”

Miranda Elish allowed just three hits by the Trojan offense and struck out five for the Bulldogs. Elish also tallied a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a double.
