With all the rain outs last week, the bats for the Chesterton Softball team
must’ve been itching to come out.
They certainly did on Saturday as the Trojans pounded out 17 hits and scored
11 runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 15-3 win at South Bend
Washington.
The Trojans built a 3-0 lead with an offensive outburst in the second inning
led off by a Mallory McKee double. Jeannette Sosnowski singled to left and
Sammie Howard’s bunt single loaded the bases.
A two-out single by Heather Overla plated the first two runs and Sydney
Cooley’s RBI single made it 3-0.
That was minimal damage compared to sending 16 batters to the plate in the
fourth inning and scoring 11 runs thanks in part to seven Chesterton hits
and three South Bend Washington errors.
McKee, Megan Matheny and Cooley all had three hits. Matheny and Overla each
had three RBI’s in the win.
Taylor Harlow got the win after striking out four and allowing seven hits in
five innings of work.
