Lexi Benko didnít need much help, but her teammates came alive anyway.

The Chesterton softball team scored a couple of early runs and then erupted late to cruise to a 14-0 Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Michigan City on Thursday.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the second as Cassidy Grimm drew a walk. After moving to second, Grimm tagged up from second on a Faith Matta fly out and scored on an errant throw.

In the third, Maddie Snemis made it 2-0 with an inside-the-park home run.

The scoring continued in the fourth when Hayley Edmonds singled and pinch-runner Kristy Stevenson scored on a Matta RBI single. Matta scored on Shelby Grimmís single.

After a Snemis single, Grimm and Snemis scored on Lauren Andersonís two-run single.

The finals touches came in the sixth inning when the Trojans scored eight runs on nine hits.

Snemis (2 RBIís) led the offense with four hits and Matta (2 RBIís) added three. Anderson and Stevenson each tallied two RBIís in the victory.

Benko went the distance in the circle, scattering six hits and striking out 10.

Chesterton returns to the field tonight when they travel to Highland for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
