Chesterton High School seniors Blake Pieroni and Aaron Whitaker have earned
National Junior Team Swimming berths with their performance at Junior
Nationals over the summer.
Pieroni will represent the USA in the World Junior Championships in Dubai on
Aug. 26-31 based on his second place finish in the 200 Free (1:49.98). He
will also swim on the 800 Free Relay.
Whitaker’s top six finish in the 100 Fly (53.38) allows him to be selected
for a trip with the National Junior team as well, to be announced on Sept.
The Duneland Swim Club girls/boys team combined for a 21st place finish.
Vanessa Krause was the lone female competitor with swims in four events. She
finished 87th in the 200 Fly (2:21.02), 99th in the 100 Free (58.26), 14th
in the 100 Fly (1:00.87) and 64th in the 50 Free (26.91).
On the boys side, the Trojans got swims from Pieroni, Aaron Whitaker, Ethan
Whitaker and Jack Wallar.
Pieroni finished 8th in the 100 Free (50.68), 16th in the 100 Fly (54.97),
2nd in the 200 Free (1:49.98), 37th in the 200 IM (2:07.80) and 17th in the
50 Free (23.58).
Aaron Whitaker was 20th in the 200 Fly (2:03.18), 139th in the 200 Back
(2:11.68), 4th in the 100 Fly (53.38) and 24th in the 50 Free (23.78).
Ethan Whitaker was 134th in the 400 Free (4:08.05) and 67th in the 200 Free
Wallar finished 57th in the 100 Breast (1:06.12).
The Whitakers, Pieroni and Wallar also teamed up to finish 13th in the 400
Medley Relay (3:53.74) and 14th in the 400 Free Relay (3:31.74).
