grad Lucas Davison won a silver medal last week at the UWW Junior World
Wrestling Championships in Tallin, Estonia.
Davison was one of
just three Americans to advance to a gold medal match after getting a trio
of wins. Davison won by technical fall against Canada’s Jullen Choquette
(10-0), decision over India’s Viky Viky (7-1) and pin against Mongolia’s
Batmagnai Enkhtuvshin (1:14) to get into the finals.
Wrestling in the 92
kg (202 lbs) division, Davison fell 5-4 to Russia’s Alan Bagaev. A 1-1 match
through the first period, Davison led 2-1 after the second period.
Both wrestlers got
a takedown in the third period, but the Russian got a takedown with 23
seconds left in the match to win the gold.
As a team, the USA
finished the three-day event with six medalists and were second overall as a
team. Russia won the team gold with 168 points, while the US (120) and Iran
(119) followed in the top three.
