Chesterton’s Josh Kalita had one of those rounds you dream of.
Kalita fired a two-under-par 34 on the Marsh Course at Sand Creek Country
Club on Thursday afternoon to lead the Trojans to 153 team score and a sweep
of Lake Central (172) and Michigan City (175).
“Josh played the best nine hole round of his high school career,” Chesterton
coach John Sparks said. “That’s impressive on the Marsh Course. Things have
been really coming together. He had a real focus out there today.”
Kalita’s performance doesn’t come as a suprise to Sparks who witnessed all
the off-season work that was put into it.
“Josh is a guy who really set his mind to something over the winter and it’s
paying off,” Sparks said. “You can see the direct results of the commitment
he made.”
Kalita was followed by Ryan Grassel’s 38, Nick Stasil’s 40 and Kyle Grassel’s
41. Pat Herrod rounded out the scoring with a 47.
“They finally came together,” Sparks said. “Ryan came through with a solid
round when we needed it and Nick shot 40 with a triple bogey. He’s on the
verge of going really low.”
The Trojans and Lake Central were tied for the DAC top spot, but the
impressive victory has given Chesterton the advantage.
“This was one of the two times we play Lake Central, who’s a very solid
team,” Sparks said. “I thought it would be close. To beat them by 19 strokes
is great.”
