The Chesterton girls track team ran away with the team title at the Andrean Invitational on Saturday. The Trojans (178) outdistanced Gary West Side (129) and Andrean (93) for the title.

“It was a long day and I thought we performed well with how much we had to sit around,” Chesterton coach Steve Kearney said. “With the wind and the cold, we weren’t as worried about the times and distances, just about winning.”

The Trojans set the tone early in the day in the field events. Chesterton went 1-2 in the high jump (Rachel Crawford, Chrissy Watts) and the long jump (Marissa Crafton, Mallory Przybylinski). Maria Schuster also had a solid day with fourth place finishes in the shot put and the discus.

“It was nice having our field event people come through,” Kearney said. “Maria had a great day in the shot put and discus. Marissa had the best overall performance of the day.”

Chesterton’s only double winner was Brianne Guardiola who took top honors in the 100 (17.04) and 300 (50.17) hurdles.

“Brianne had two great races in the hurdles,” Kearney said. “She beat some quality kids and looked relaxed.”

Other winners for the Trojans included Riley Trella (3,200), Tina Guidarelli (1,600) and Allyson Harvey (800). The 4x800 quartet of Guidarelli, Jamie Norgaard, Jenna Norgaard and Harvey also won.
