CHS girls tennis team beats Michigan City

The Chesterton girls tennis team picked up a 4-1 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Michigan City on Thursday.

In singles, Peyton Martinson was first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Anna Kmiecik at No. 1. Milena Veltri followed suit with a shutout of Lexi Ramirez at No. 2.

Leah Rochford finished the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Reece Shirley.

In doubles, Libby Gibson and Christian Charlson beat Emma Sells and Kasey Halfacre 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.

Chesterton 4, Michigan State 1


Singles -- 1. Peyton Martinson (C) def. Anna Kmiecik 6-0, 6-0; Milena Veltri (C) def. Lexi Ramirez 6-0, 6-0; 3. Leah Rochford (C) def. Reece Shirley 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles -- 1. Evangelina Dabagia/Sara Poulin (MC) def. Olivia Vesling/Hailee Ellenwood 6-1, 7-5; 2. Libby Gibson/Christian Charlson (C) def. Emma Sells/Kasey Halfacre 6-1, 6-3.

Record: Chesterton 3-1 (2-0 DAC).

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 5, Michigan City 2

The Chesterton junior varsity beat Michigan City 5-2.

In singles, Emily Haiduc (No. 2) and Rina Hector (No. 3) were winners.

In doubles, victories came from Rachel Byrnside/Lilly Putchaven (No. 1), Maria Schmahl/Lauren Sensibaugh (No. 2) and Jenna Aguilar/Lindsey Tucker (No. 3).
