CHS Girls Tennis beats Michigan City 5-0

The Chesterton girls tennis team improved to 3-0 in Duneland Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 sweep of Michigan City on Thursday.

“Right now, I like how we’re competing day in and day out,” Chesterton coach Tom Bour said. “Hopefully it leads to some more wins.”

In singles, Hannah Nabhan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over Aika Patejdl, while Olivia Vesling beat Hannah Debald 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Peyton Martinson completed the singles sweep with a win over Anna Kmiecik 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, Eliza Tumbas and Kara Maggio battled three sets to beat Evangelea Dabagia and Brianne Norman 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. At No. 2, Megan Hill and Rachel Fredenburg beat Madison Laux and Sara Poulin 6-1, 6-2.

“Our No. 2 doubles team got a lead early and did a great job of closing out their match,” Bour said. “At No. 1, they dropped the second set and regrouped and played great doubles to win in three sets.”

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they travel to the Zionsville Invitational. Tennis begins at 8 a.m.

Junior Varsity

Chesterton 6, Michigan City 3

The Chesterton junior varsity picked up a 6-3 victory over Michigan City on Thursday.

Individual winners in singles included Paige Donovan (No. 1), Libby Gibson (No. 2) and Korie Berdine (No. 3).

In doubles, victorious teams included Samantha Fazekas-Hailee Ellenwood (No. 1), Rachel Byrnside- Hannah Hill (No. 2) and Maddy Haskell-Christian Charlson (No. 3).
