The Chesterton girls tennis team rebounded from a disappointing loss on Monday at Highland with a solid 4-1 Duneland Athletic Conference victory over Lake Central on Tuesday afternoon.

“We had two 3-set matches that went our way,” Chesterton coach Gretchen Shinn said. “Lake Central’s program has improved tremendously. We feel good leaving here with a 4-1 victory.”

The Trojans (8-4, 4-2) posted two quick points as Elizabeth Shinn put together a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Nicole Polus at No. 1 singles. In doubles, Amanda Gore and Christine Lambert had little trouble with Kristin Taleber and Tara McElmurry 6-1, 6-1.

Chesterton (8-4, 4-2) won the first set at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, but found themselves in third sets with the match on the line.

At No. 2 singles, Trojan Erin DeVaney beat Emily Peppin 6-3 in the opening set before losing 6-4 in the second. An impressive 6-3 win in the third set lifted DeVaney to the win.

At No. 1 doubles, the CHS duo of Cristi Williams and Lauren Ingram won the first set 7-6 by winning a tiebreak 7-3. LC’s Grace Myers and Britni Weiner won the second set 6-4, but the Trojans dominated the third set to win 6-1.
